Alternate Reality vision 22
Excerpt
“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”
George Orwell, 1984
The man said to me, “It’s easy to see how the notion of living in a simulation could be so appealing as a religion.”
“I mean is it based on just the movie? I remember that time period distinctly. And it was quite possibly the last time in American history that things were fun,” said the man in his mid 50s.
The man said, “The idea of a massive surveillance state isn’t quite a myth as most assuredly our every keystroke is monitored and monitized. The massive amount of information regarding our collective consciousness is continuously evolving. But if you turn your gaze to the world’s elite, and you recognize the fact that a tiny portion of the planet, literally the top 1% of the top 1% do exist, you have to ask yourself the question. “What do they spend their time doing?”
The man in his mid 50s said, “In The Matrix, Keanu Reeves and his gang are always being chased by that trio of agents. Do those agents exist on their own or do they work for someone else? “
“Exactly. And to watch some of the clowns out there in public in our very manufactured world. It’s so obvious and absurd. No one would act this way unless they were instructed to.”
“Yup. Behind their gates and inside their enclaves what are they discussing? Are they talking about securing even more of the world’s wealth? What narratives are they crafting at this very moment? What industry do they want to control? What government do they want to topple? What measures can they take to keep people second guessing reality?”
“I’m reminded of the scene from “The Mothman Prophecies” where Richard Gere’s character questions why an advanced being isn’t capable of communicating with humans. And the guy asks if he can communicate with a cockroach. And then I thought of that small club at the very top of the pile and the world they live in and how they spend their money.”
“What do they talk about?”
It all boils down to how big of a lie you are willing to accept. That’s really the heart of the matter. When you can accept the notion that privacy no longer exists, its truly liberating. Story is set at this same time in history, but in an alternate reality.
“Have any questions for me?”
“Um, yes. How many of me are you offering this to?”
“A city this size, we have about a dozen full timers, plus a handful of part timers in the field. I mean, I’ll say it again.” He paused. A sense of contempt rushed through his body and pounded on his forehead. The last time this happened he buried an axe into an assets stomach. “For that matter, I’ve said enough.” He smiled. And then cleared his throat and waited for the piece of human debris sitting across from him to utter the next words.
“No, I didn’t mean anything by that. I mean…Sorry.”
“Ok then. Your first task is to be at the event tonight on 4th and Main. You know the drill. Of course, I’ll be monitoring. I need to see you on three different main feeds. Four would be better. Break what you need to. Fuck, stomp some dog to death. I don’t care what you do. Figure it out. Make it primal. Your kind will be in attendance tonight, at least 6 of you.”
There is a celebration planned. It is the anniversary of the date when it is determined that the last original thought by a human took place. The enlightened and sane worship technology, with a select few paying allegiance to something more ancient. While a worship of traditional religions is not outlawed, it is most certainly mocked and discouraged. You have a man living his best life. And this man was born and was raised in a loving, traditional family, and made it to that great point in his life with much familial love and caring friends, stability and standing, and he recognized and feared God. He was the last of his kind. His belief system was totally unencumbered by any notion of AI.
The cataclysmic event that put the human population on a trajectory toward submissiveness was when the identities of people in western nations had their identities erased. People knew who they knew, but any notion of having credit with some faceless corporation was an impossibility. The banks had no recourse but to confiscate their assets and the judges and politicians went along. The media reported nothing. Of course, the world’s elite consolidated even more power. After the initial chaos and unpleasantries, the general public settled into line. The bulk of the population.
The outliers maintain their core beliefs with a special zeal and second-class citizenry. There is a return to tangible items. A skilled bicycle mechanic is the most important man in town. Actual books are invaluable although the written word is understood by less than 5% of the planet.
