If you believe that then why would you ever follow conventional wisdom? Wilde mentions that the one duty we owe to history is to rewrite it. Obviously, a radical thought. I’d much rather conserve the better parts of our traditions than destroy all of them. The ensuing chaos could indeed be catastrophic.
